Abstract
This article analyzes the effect of stress on the human body and its role in the development of psychosomatic diseases. The pathogenetic mechanisms of stress, in particular, the activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system, the functional and structural changes that occur as a result of increased cortisol and other stress hormones, are highlighted.
