Abstract

Background:Theconsequencesofchronickidneydisease(CKD)aremanifestedinprogressiveimpairedkidneyfunctioningandworseningoftheabilitytogetridofnitrogenouswasteproducts.Objective:Thepurposeofthestudywasnotonlytodeterminetheamountofserumcreatinineandbloodureanitrogen(BUN)ofthepatientswithchronicrenalfailure,butalsotocomparetheresultsofthestudywithnormalvalues.Methods:Itwasacross-sectionalstudywhere30healthycontrolsand60participantswhohadlong-termrenalfailurewereinvestigated.Anautomatedanalyzer(chemical)wasusedtodeterminethecreatinineandBUNlevelsoftheserum.Results:SerumcreatinineandBUNlevelsweresubstantiallyhigherinthechronicrenalfailuregroupthaninthecontrolgroup(p<0.05)forbothgendersandagegroups.Conclusion:BiochemicalevidenceofkidneyfailureistheappropriateuseofserumcreatinineandBUN,whichcanalsobeeffectiveindeterminingthemagnitudeofchronicrenalfailure
