Abstract

Teaching language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—remains complex despite advances in pedagogy and technology. Persistent theoretical debates (e.g., skill integration vs. isolated practice, form-focused vs. meaning-focused instruction) and practical constraints (large classes, limited resources, assessment pressures, and uneven teacher preparation) produce recurring challenges that undermine learners’ communicative competence. This article synthesizes theoretical perspectives and classroom evidence to identify core challenges in teaching language skills and to propose practical, evidence-informed foundations for addressing them.
