Abstract

In modern TESOL practice, lesson planning plays a crucial role in fostering learners’ communicative competence. Among the core components of contemporary lesson plans, listening and speaking tasks occupy a central position, as they directly contribute to the development of learners’ oral communication skills. This article explores the role of listening and speaking tasks in developing students’ oral communicative competence in English language classes within the framework of modern lesson planning. Grounded in communicative language teaching, task-based learning, and input–output theories, the study adopts a mixed-methods approach that combines theoretical analysis, classroom observation, and pedagogical experimentation with university-level learners. The findings indicate that well-structured, interactive listening and speaking tasks integrated into modern lesson plans significantly enhance students’ fluency, pronunciation, confidence, and pragmatic competence. The study emphasizes that learner-centered and task-based lesson planning is essential for effective oral skill development in TESOL contexts.
