Abstract
In this article, we discuss the potential of visual aids for teaching medical vocabulary in ESP contexts. Based on a qualitative analysis of pedagogical and cognitive literature, the research shows that visual materials (by way of diagrams, photos and multimedia tools), contribute in improving comprehension ability, retention, and learner involvement. As shown above, we know that combining visual materials with communicative tasks results in a strong increase in effective and pragmatic medical vocabulary learning.
