Abstract

This article examines dictation as a practical approach for improving listening comprehension in language education. It highlights that dictation is more than a simple transcription exercise, as it helps learners develop awareness of pronunciation, intonation, rhythm, and overall language structure. The method allows for immediate error correction, provides feedback, and can be used individually or in collaborative activities. When paired with authentic audio, pre-listening preparation, and complementary listening tasks, dictation enhances both detailed (bottom-up) and contextual (top-down) processing, strengthens vocabulary and grammar, and encourages learner independence. Its adaptability, low cost, and ability to integrate multiple language skills make it a highly effective teaching tool.
