Abstract

This article examines the lexical-semantic features involved in the formation of cognitive metaphors from the perspective of cognitive linguistics. It explores the relationship between language, thought, and conceptual systems, emphasizing that metaphors are not merely stylistic devices but fundamental mechanisms of human cognition. The study analyzes how conceptual metaphors function in English and Uzbek, highlighting their role in reflecting human experience, cultural values, and worldview. Special attention is given to spatial metaphors such as vertical and horizontal orientations, which are closely connected to human physical and emotional states.
