Abstract

Music is an effective pedagogical tool for emotional regulation, cognitive development, and moral education. This study comparatively examines Al-Farabi’s concept of musical catharsis and contemporary Western music therapy approaches, focusing on the educational integration of maqoms. Using a qualitative comparative methodology, Rast, Segah, Bayati, and Hijaz maqoms are linked to emotional activation, cognitive-ethical processing, and educational outcomes. The findings indicate that integrating Eastern cathartic principles with Western music therapy enhances learners’ emotional intelligence, communication skills, and overall well-being. The study offers a methodological framework for culturally inclusive and holistic music and language education
