Abstract
COVID-19 is now understood not only as a respiratory infection but also as a systemic vascular and thromboinflammatory disease. Since the early phases of the pandemic, clinical and pathological studies have shown that SARS-CoV-2 infection can disturb hemostatic balance, activate coagulation pathways, injure the endothelium, alter platelet function, impair fibrinolysis, and trigger both venous and arterial thrombosis.
