Phraseological Lacunae AND Realia
Abstract
This study examines the intricate relationship between phraseological lacunae and realia in cross-cultural communication, focusing on the gaps that emerge when culturally-specific expressions and concepts are transmitted across linguistic boundaries. Through comprehensive literature analysis, this research explores how phraseological units embedded with cultural realia create translation challenges and communication barriers. The study reveals that phraseological lacunae represent not merely linguistic gaps but profound cultural discontinuities that reflect different worldviews, historical experiences, and social structures. The findings demonstrate that effective cross-cultural communication requires understanding both the linguistic mechanisms of phraseological expression and the cultural contexts that give these expressions their meaning.
