Abstract

This repository contains data from the manuscript "How do naturally soil-weathered plastics continue to age in soil?", Forsyth et al. Data originates from an experiment involving burial of naturally soil-weathered plastics in soil and comparson of properties before and after, designed to investigate their further aging. Naturally soil-weathered macroplastics were buried in soil within an agricultural field for 19 months. The samples include 10 PE samples, 5 PP samples, 8 PS samples, and 6 PET samples.Surface oxidation was investigated through FTIR spectra and carbonyl index, surface morphology was determined through optical microscopy and SEM imaging on a subset of samplesBulk properties were invetigated by DSC, TGA, and GPC, deternmining crystallinity, thermal stability, and molecular weight.
