Abstract

Vocabulary development is one of the central components of English language teaching because lexical competence directly influences learners’ reading comprehension, listening comprehension, speaking fluency, and writing accuracy. In modern language education, vocabulary is no longer viewed as a simple process of memorizing isolated words. Instead, it is understood as a complex linguodidactic process that includes semantic, grammatical, communicative, cultural, and contextual dimensions. This article discusses the linguodidactic opportunities for developing vocabulary in English language teaching. It focuses on contextual learning, word formation, collocations, semantic grouping, digital resources, communicative tasks, and learner autonomy. The article argues that effective vocabulary teaching should combine systematic lexical instruction with meaningful communication and practical language use. Such an approach helps learners not only remember new words but also apply them appropriately in real-life academic, professional, and intercultural contexts.
