Spectral and magneto-optical studies concerning the magnetic-phase diagram of (Gd, Tb, Er)3(Al,Fe)5O12 at low temperatures

The characteristics of magnetization reversal in the (110) plane of a (Gd,Tb,Er)3(Al,Fe)5O12 ferrite-garnet were studied at the temperature T = 4.2 °K. This study was based on an analysis of the domain structure for which purpose the authors used, at the same time, the magneto-optical Faraday effect and the absorption spectra within the 4I15/2→4S3/2 transition of the Er3+ ion in each domain. The phase diagram has been established experimentally covering the 0–40 kOe range of magnetic field intensities. It appears that the magnetic anisotropy in the complex (Gd,Tb,Er)3(Al,Fe)5O12 garnet is the same as that in Er3Fe5O12.
