Kinetics of configurational equilibration of the ortho subsystem of solid hydrogen

A theoretical investigation of the processes of configurational relaxation of the ortho subsystem of solid hydrogen at low temperatures (T≲4Г, where Г ∼1°K is the quadrupole coupling constant) and low concentrations of the ortho modification (c∼0.01) is presented. It is shown that the characteristic configurational-relaxation time is determined mainly by the probability of phononless dissociation of nearest-neighbor pairs of ortho molecules. For the configurational-relaxation time τ the following dependence on concentration and temperature is obtained: τ∼ c5/3 exp(4Г/T).
