Effect of ac magnetic field on creep in nickel single crystals at helium temperatures
Аннотация
Data are presented from investigations on the effect of an ac magnetic field of various strengths (50–650 Oe) on creep in nickel crystals with the axis of tension oriented along [110] in the athermal creep region (1.5–4.2°K). It is shown that switching on the magnetic field at these temperatures results in the specimen being softened to an extent determined by the field strength. Estimates are made of the contributions which may be made to the observed effect by eddy-current Joule heating and dislocation–domain-wall interaction. It is concluded that the main contribution to the softening of nickel crystals at these temperatures comes from the interaction between dislocations and domain walls that move during remagnetization.
