Аннотация

The temperature dependence of the low-frequency internal friction (LFIF) and shear modulus G in the temperature range 2–12.5 K have been studied in free-standing specimens of normal hydrogen, n-H2, by the inverted torsional pendulum method. Peaks were found in the LFIF at T≈ 5.5 and ≈ 9 K and also an increase in the internal friction background below 8 K . Over the whole temperature interval studied, the shear modulus and its low values are relatively constant. The anomalous behavior of the LFIF and G in n-H2 (compa red with the classical Ar) is associated with an increase in the mobility of defects in the low-temperature region and with an appreciable contribution of quantum fluctuations in internal friction processes in solid hydrogen at low temperatures.
