Аннотация
SYNOPSIS The effects of different levels of shading on the early growth and development of the Clanwilliam cedar are described. Seedlings exhibit a positive response in height growth and a non-significant trend of increased biomass accumulation with increased levels of shading. There is no strong evidence that etiolation occurs, even at 75% shading. These results are discussed with reference to the association between cedars and rocky outcrops. This association is attributed to the shade provided by the rocks during early development and to protection from fire.
