Аннотация
The quasi-harmonic instability of a cryocrystal surface is studied by using a simple isotropic model of an fee crystal. The interaction of atoms is described by the Lennard-Jones potential whose parameters are fitted with experimental results. It is shown that the bulk instability occurs at temperatures that do not differ from the melting point of the Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe crystals under investigation. The surface instability sets in at temperatures that are 0.71, 0.76, 0.77, and 0.78 of the bulk instability temperatures of Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe, respectively.
