Electron–exciton interaction and local pairing in high-temperature superconductors

The possibility of pairing of holes on Cu2+(O2−)2 quasi-molecules in the oxygen-deficient chains CuO2–O–CuO2–O–... of the high temperature superconductor YBa2Cu3O7−x is discussed. The superconductivity is considered for the two-component system comprising local pairs on chains and conduction-band electrons in CuO2 layers.
