Temperature dependences of photoinduced linear birefringence in tetragonal garnet Ca3Mn2Ge3Ol2 and cubic garnets Ca3Mn2Ga2–xGe3O12 (x ≈ 0.2) and Cd3Mn2Ge3Ol2 are investigated. The existence of a relationship between photoinduced birefringence and the cooperative Jahn–Teller effect in manganese-germanium garnets is shown. The temperature dependence of photoinduced linear birefringence in manganese–germanium garnets is described and the activation energy of the process destroying the photoinduced effect is determined: ε = 0.056 eV for Ga2Mn2Ge3O12 and ε = 0.039 eV for Cd2Mn2Ge3O12 garnets.
