Аннотация

Sociology is identified with public opinion surveys. This is a fact. But this is a very superficial notion of the subject matter and functions of sociological knowledge. Sociology is a science that, like any science, develops in accordance with its own laws. It is only quite recently that it began to be called by its proper name. Before the Resolution of the Central Committee of the CPSU (1988) entitled "On Increasing the Role of Marxist-Leninist Sociology in Tackling the Key Social Problems of Soviet Society" [O povyshenii roli marksistko-leninskoi sotsiologii v reshenii uzlovykh sotsial'-nykh problem sovetskogo obshchestva] the official status of sociology in our social science was accompanied by the restrictive qualification "applied."
