Аннотация
The luminescence of optical materials (quartz, silicate and organic glasses) accompanying impact and friction consists of numerous flashes of about 10μs duration, having an identical shape—linear during ignition (for 1–4μs) and exponential damping (with a mean time of 7–25μs). The ignition is explained by the formation and growth of cracks on the “shores” of which electronically excited free radicals are located, while the damping is the relaxation of the electron excitation after the friction ceases.
