The floral biological characteristics of five sympodial bamboo species

The floral biological characteristics of five sympodial bamboo species were studied in Guangxi Autonomous Region. The main conclusions were as follows: these five sympodial bamboo species belongs to flowering branch type,which were perennial plants,and once blossoming and fruiting,they would be going to die. Dendrocalamus latiflorus Munro, Schizostachyum funghomii McClure,D. minor( McClure) L. C. Chia H. L. Fung,D. yunnanicus Hsueh D. Z. Li and Bambusa sinospinosa McClure were false inflorescence. The full-bloom stage of the five sympodial bamboo species was through March to July. D. latiflorus Munro and D. minor( McClure) L. C. Chia H. L. Fung were synchronizing blossoming regardless of age,and the whole plant would be flowering. Some individual of B. sinospinosa McClure,S. funghomii McClure and D. yunnanicus Hsueh D. Z. Li would be flowering without bearing any fruit. The flower of B. sinospinosa McClure was open type,while the other was closed type.
