AbstractThe article deals with the analysis of repetitions expressing emotions in Elizabethan tragedies. The chief use of repetition is to mark strong emotion and excitement of the characters. Repetition is essentially an emotional reflex, and it is as such that it chiefly occurs: even the more rhetorical emphatic use, where it is employed to draw attention to a particular word or phrase, is generally tined emotionally as well. Excitement, passion, bustle almost inevitably produce repetition, and dramatists who are rich in such qualities, like Shakespeare or Marston, are generally rich in repetitions
