Abstract. Using the model of a particle in a trap, the effect of quantum confinement on the energy spectra of spherical quantum dots of CdSe, GaP, and GaAs is theoretically investigated. It was shown that the energy levels of free electrons in the conduction band and holes in the valence band in quantum dots are discrete. It was also shown that the energy between the two levels depends on the size of quantum dots and increases with decreasing size of quantum dots. In addition, our results show that as the radius of the limiting point increases, the energy decreases, but does not reach zero.
