MRI criteria for the differential diagnosis of patients with benign tumors and tumor-like diseases of the limb bones
Аннотация
Tumors and tumor-like diseases of the bone tissue rank fourth after cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases and diabetes mellitus. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), tumors and tumor-like diseases of bone tissue are common both in Uzbekistan and abroad. The frequency of benign tumor diseases of the musculoskeletal system is 2.5-5.2% among all tumor diseases. Of these, lesions of the bones of the forearm range from 2 to 10%, tumors of the bones of the hand - 7-13% among other localizations, and according to scientists from some countries, from 16 to 23% of all tumor lesions of the human skeleton.\n\nTimely diagnosis and treatment of tumors and tumor-like diseases of the bones is of inexorable interest among orthopedists. This is due to the breadth of the prevalence of pathology, the multifactorial nature of structural disorders, as well as bone metabolism, which can include genetic, hormonal, iatrogenic factors, as well as those associated with ecology and concomitant chronic diseases.\n\nMagnetic resonance imaging is a highly informative non-invasive research method. MRI provides a direct image of the bone marrow, unlike other imaging modalities that reflect the bone's response to a tumor. It is possible to differentiate between malignant and benign bone tumors. It is possible to accurately determine the size and location of the tumor within the bone, as well as its spread to soft tissues or joints, the structure of the tumor, which, in turn, makes it possible to more purposefully select an adequate treatment strategy for patients with bone tumors.
