Computer Aided Analysis of Phase Change Material [PCM] Based Battery Thermal Management System

This research focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of a Phase Change Material (PCM)-based Battery Thermal Management System (BTMS) using computer-aided analysis. It tackles the issue of high temperatures having a detrimental influence on battery performance and safety. Without PCM cooling technology, real-world data analysis showed high temperatures of 113°C, suggesting serious hazards. To address this issue, the research proposes using PCM (paraffin wax) as a cooling medium. The simulation findings show a significant temperature reduction, with maximum temperatures around 65°C, representing a 40-50°C decline from the baseline scenario. The PCM-based BTMS absorbs and stores excess heat effectively, acting as a reliable heat sink to keep temperatures within safe limits.
