Improving the Efficiency of Video Compression by a Bidirectional Resize of TV Images

The possibility of increasing the compression efficiency of television (TV) images in industrial television systems, using various scaling transformations, which first divide the images by 2 horizontally and vertically before video compression is evaluated at the article. And then, after decoding, the original image sizes are restored. This approach allows to reduce the amount of video data by 4 before video compression and, accordingly, to increase the compression ratio of the video. The results of an experiment to see how efficiency increases for video compression and how much image distortion is introduced in the Dirac wavelet video codec using a bidirectional scaler are shown.
