Framing Sexual Misconduct Claims: A Case Study of Online News Coverage in Indonesia

This study aims to determine and describe how the framing of the news of the alleged sexual harassment of Gofar Hilman on the online media Kompas.comfor the period June 2021 and February 2022.Researchers chose the June 2021 and February 2022 periods because the news during this period of the news of Gofar Hilman's alleged sexual harassment became a conversation in every information media regarding the alleged sexual harassment case which was still confusing about the truth.This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach.And using Robert N. Entman's framing analysis method through his four elements, namely: problem identification, identification of the cause of the problem, moral evaluation, and finally problem solving suggestions.The results of this study show that problem identification framed by Kompas.comonline media is more focused on the development of sexual harassment problems committed by Gofar Hilman until the decision of the authorities.The second element of causal interpretation framed on Kompas.comonline media is Syerin who was in the spotlight when she made a thread on her Twitter account about sexual harassment experienced in 2018.In the third element of moral evaluation framed by Kompas.com, the owner of the @quweenjojo account turned out to have made false accusations of sexual harassment committed by Gofar Hilman.and the fourth element of treatment recommendation framed by Kompas.com is to resolve the case of alleged sexual harassment committed by Gofar Hilman by means of mediation conducted by Gofar Hilman and Syerin and her parents and accompanied by the police.
