ScholarOne - Topography of research ethics of doctoral human studies in Uzbekistan

Protection of human subjects in health research is an essential ethical requirement. The question of whether an Academic Council at the Tashkent Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education evaluates research projects from an ethical point of view remains an open one. We conducted a retrospective ethical analysis of the whole sample of research proposals submitted to institute in 2016-2019. Majority research proposals met ethical requirements in 50% with an emphasis on benchmark-1 for collaborative partnership. The MoH prioritized social and scientific value of the research for in country implementation. Other foundational research benchmarks were not necessarily fully compliant. Our findings suggest that there is a need to implement all 8 benchmarks as a requirement for both domestic and international human studies.
