Afghanistan’s Involvement in Regional Integration Processes: Uzbekistan’s Approach

This article examines the current political and socioeconomic situation in Afghanistan, with particular focus on Uzbekistan’s comprehensive and pragmatic approach to addressing its complex challenges. Against the backdrop of ongoing instability and humanitarian issues in Afghanistan, the article explores how Uzbekistan has emerged as a key regional actor advocating for constructive engagement, economic cooperation, and peaceful integration. Special attention is given to Uzbekistan’s multifaceted efforts aimed at stabilizing the internal situation in Afghanistan and promoting its long-term sustainable development through regional mechanisms. The article analyzes Tashkent’s strategic initiatives, including infrastructure development, energy connectivity, trade facilitation, educational and humanitarian projects, and political dialogue support. It highlights Uzbekistan’s consistent stance that Afghanistan’s reintegration into Central and South Asian regional processes is essential not only for the country’s own recovery but also for ensuring broader regional stability and sustainable growth. Uzbekistan’s policies are guided by principles of mutual respect, non-interference, and the pursuit of shared regional interests. The article argues that by providing platforms for dialogue and development, and by actively participating in international and multilateral forums addressing Afghan issues, Uzbekistan plays a pivotal role in reshaping regional approaches toward Afghanistan. Ultimately, the article concludes that Uzbekistan’s proactive and inclusive policies contribute to the establishment of a peaceful, stable, and interconnected region, where Afghanistan is viewed not as a threat, but as an opportunity for regional transformation and cooperation.
