Synthesis, characterization, and application of a novel tetraglycidyloxy ascorbate epoxy prepolymer as an effective protective agent for metal in chemical industry
Аннотация
This study explores the synthesis, characterization, and corrosion-inhibiting capabilities of tetraglycidyloxy ascorbate (TGASC), a novel tetrafunctional epoxy compound, for protecting carbon steel in 1 M HCl. The chemical structure was confirmed via FTIR and NMR spectroscopy. Electrochemical tests showed that TGASC functions as an anodic-type inhibitor, achieving maximum inhibition efficiencies of approximately 87% (PDP) and 84% (EIS) at a concentration of 10−3 M. Its adsorption on the steel surface follows the Langmuir isotherm and occurs spontaneously through chemisorption. DFT calculations indicated that TGASC has a lower energy gap and reduced hardness, implying higher reactivity. Molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulations demonstrated strong surface interactions, with significant adsorption energies, while RDF analyses confirmed chemisorption via Fe–O bonds. SEM and EDS analyses supported the formation of a protective surface film.
