A Study on the Attitude towards Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Need for Cognition among Young Adults

Artificial Intelligence has become a deeply integrated part of the daily lives of young adults, shaping how they think, learn, and make decisions. The present study aimed to study the relationship between attitude towards Artificial Intelligence (AI), Need for Cognition, and AI usage, including ChatGPT use, among young adults. A total sample of 57 young adults aged 18-30 years was taken. Standardized scales were used to measure Attitude towards AI, Need for Cognition, and problematic ChatGPT use. The results revealed a significant positive relationship between the Attitude towards AI and the benefits of AI, and the use of AI, as well as a significant negative relationship between Need for Cognition and ChatGPT use, which suggests that individuals with higher cognitive motivation rely less on conversational AI tools. The study highlighted the importance of understanding cognitive motivation in shaping how young adults interact with modern AI technologies.
