NATIONAL HOLIDAYS: NAVRUZ VS CHRISTMAS
Аннотация
This article presents an in-depth comparative analysis of two brilliant gems of humanity's cultural heritage: Nowruz (symbol of spring and renewal) and Christmas (symbol of the winter solstice and family unity). The study explores their ancient origins (Nowruz's 3,000-year-old Iranian tradition and Christmas's Christian-pagan past), their processes of religious-cultural transformation, rituals specific to each cultural sphere (the Haft-Sin table and Nowruz spread, caroling and the Christmas tree, Kolyada and Santa Claus), and their role in preserving national identity. The philosophical meanings of the holidays – ecological (harmony with nature) and social (unity, charity) – are revealed, alongside their reinterpretation in modern global society. Special attention is given to the similarities (charity, fire rituals, gift-giving) and differences (seasonal context, religious emphasis) in how Nowruz is celebrated in Uzbekistan and Christmas in the West. The article aims to foster an understanding of the universal and unique aspects of world holidays, based on respect for the values of different cultures.
