Radiation-Induced Structural Transformations in SiO₂- Based Silicate Glasses
Аннотация
Silicate glasses of types KI and KU are composed of two types of structural units, varying in size from 0.5 to 1.5 nm.Post-irradiation analysis reveals weak reflections indicative of nanocrystalline phases, which are primarily responsible for ultraviolet (UV) absorption. The high radiation-optical resistance of these glasses is attributed to the utilization of absorbed radiation energy for SiO₂ crystallization.Silicate glass has long been regarded as one of humanity's most versatile materials, used since ancient times.Despite its widespread application in science, technology, and daily life, several fundamental questions remain unresolved in the physics of glass. One of the key challenges is understanding how the material's internal structure influences its physical properties.Although numerous structural models of glass have been proposed, the field continues to face significant debate-mainly due to the limitations of conventional IMCRA
