Corrosion in the Chemical Processing Industry
Аннотация
This chapter examines the important topic of corrosion in the chemical processing industry. Temperature and aggressive medium effects on corrosion-protection process were also discussed. The importance of the industry and the detrimental effects of corrosion on safety and the economy are covered in the first section of the chapter. Environmental cracking, stress corrosion cracking, hydrogen- induced cracking, and corrosion fatigue, as well as localized corrosion (pitting, crevice, and galvanic corrosion) were also discussed. There is additional discussion on the mechanisms of corrosion in organic, high-temperature, and aqueous systems. Additional tactics for controlling and preventing corrosion are covered in this chapter, including the use of corrosion inhibitors, protective coatings, cathodic and anodic protection, and material selection. The use of visual examination, non-destructive testing (NDT), and electrochemical monitoring and inspection procedures is highlighted. Last, developments in materials and coatings, corrosion modeling and simulation, and sustainable corrosion management techniques are highlighted as future trends, and research areas are reviewed.
