Impact of Concrete Corrosion on Environmental Sustainability
Аннотация
Modern infrastructure's structural integrity and environmental sustainability are seriously threatened by concrete corrosion. The endurance and functionality of concrete structures, which are crucial for infrastructure and urban development, are jeopardized by various corrosion processes, including carbonation and corrosion generated by chloride. Concrete deteriorating structures frequently require more maintenance and repair work, which adds to the resource consumption and waste production associated with construction. This increases the depletion of raw materials and energy supplies and the environmental impact of infrastructure projects. Moreover, deteriorating concrete can leak toxic materials into the environment, affecting the soil and water quality. The numerous effects of concrete corrosion on sustainability and the environment are examined in this chapter, with particular attention to how these effects affect ecological systems and resource management. It emphasizes how crucial it is to use sustainable methods while managing and building concrete to preserve the environment and prolong the life of infrastructure systems.
