Аннотация

More and more, visual and graphic skills are seen as basic skills that students need to be able to understand, create, and share ideas using pictures, diagrams, drawings, models, and digital visualizations. These skills include perceptual sensitivity, spatial cognition, representational competence, and disciplined production habits in general education, art and design, engineering graphics, and technology education. Studies show that visual-spatial skills can be improved through structured educational interventions that lead to lasting and significant improvements. This article examines pedagogical approaches that enhance visual and graphic competencies through an integration of research on spatial training, drawing as a learning tool, visual literacy scaffolding, studio critique methodologies, and technology-enhanced visualization. The analysis suggests a cohesive instructional framework that harmonizes manual and digital representation, alleviates unnecessary cognitive burden while constructing schemas, and employs feedback-intensive cycles of modeling, guided practice, critique, revision, and application to novel contexts. The article ends with suggestions for how to design curricula, teach, and test students in ways that encourage visual reasoning and graphic communication as skills that can be taught and measured.
