Аннотация

Environmental education has become a critical component of sustainable development in the 21st century. As environmental challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and resource depletion intensify, educational institutions play a central role in fostering ecological literacy and responsible behavior. Students, as active participants in the educational process, are not merely recipients of knowledge but also agents of change in promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices. This article examines the role of students in shaping environmental education and ecological culture within higher education institutions. Through a review of educational theories, sustainability frameworks, and empirical studies, the paper highlights the importance of student engagement, environmental activism, and participatory learning in strengthening ecological responsibility. The findings suggest that empowering students through experiential learning, interdisciplinary curricula, and institutional support significantly enhances environmental consciousness and long-term sustainable behavior.
