PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS EXPRESSING FEAR IN UZBEK AND ENGLISH: A COMPARATIVE STUDY
Аннотация
Fear is a universal emotional experience, yet its linguistic representation varies significantly across languages and cultures. Phraseological units play a crucial role in encoding emotions, as they reflect collective cognitive models and culturally specific imagery. This article presents a comparative study of phraseological units expressing fear in Uzbek and English. Based on data drawn from phraseological dictionaries, literary texts, and linguistic studies, the paper analyzes semantic classifications, somatic imagery, and underlying conceptual metaphors of fear-related phraseology in both languages. The findings reveal both universal patterns grounded in human physiology and culture-specific differences shaped by national mentality and linguistic traditions. The study contributes to contrastive linguistics, cognitive phraseology, and emotion studies
