HISTORICAL MEMORY AND NATIONAL IDENTITY INTERPRETATION IN ISADJON SULTAN'S NOVEL "BILGA KHOKAN"
Аннотация
In Uzbek historical fiction, the artistic interpretation of the history and spiritual heritage of the ancient Turks is considered a complex and responsible undertaking. The novel Bilga Khagan by the People’s Writer of Uzbekistan, Isajon Sulton, is one of the significant works devoted to this important and relevant theme. The work artistically reconstructs the concepts of ancient Turkic statehood, national identity, and the notions of el and budun through literary imagination. By harmoniously combining the spirit of historical sources—particularly the Orkhon-Enisei inscriptions—with modern artistic expression, the author transports the reader into the depths of the distant past. The novel not only depicts historical events but also profoundly reveals the process of a nation’s self-awareness, the sufferings endured by the people, and the spirit of revival. The issues raised in the work—fragmentation, the threat of losing identity, alienation, and geopolitical pressure—are interpreted in resonance with contemporary realities. In this respect, Bilga Khagan serves as a literary bridge between historical memory and modern consciousness
