The Difficulty of Distinguishing Homonyms and Polysemies As Actual Problems in The Modern Karakalpak Language

Among the issues concerning the internal structure and essence of language, the problems of polysemy and homonymy are of considerable importance. At the same time, the formation of homonyms from polysemy is of particular significance. Without addressing the general nature of these two phenomena, this paper focuses on a specific practical issue: methods for distinguishing between them. It is well known that, in the Karakalpak language, homonyms that arise due to the loss of semantic connection between meanings of the same word are especially difficult to study. This process reflects the internal laws of the language, contributing to the enrichment of its vocabulary through its own resources. Therefore, distinguishing between polysemy and homonymy is of great theoretical and practical importance for understanding the internal structure, capabilities, and development tendencies of the language. The aim of this article is to investigate homonymy and polysemy in the Karakalpak language and to establish optimal methods for their differentiation.
