Аннотация

Today, biological research and manufacturing are becoming totally dependent on digital technologies, starting from the research and development through to the last-mile delivery of the products. The general cybersecurity standards and frameworks are broad and are not well suitable for cyber threats arising around biological research. There is a need to have an integrated and operational cybersecurity framework that meets the needs the specific needs of the area. In this paper we address this gap by reviewing existing cyberbiosecurity literature and analyzing the limitations in current practices and standards related to biosecurity. The proposed integrated secure framework uses multiple factors such as access control, network segmentation, continuous monitoring, incident response, resilience, and governance. Moreover, the framework extends existing cybersecurity standards to incorporate crucial biological assets, laboratory automation, and associated risks. The proposed framework’s objective is to enhance the cybersecurity posture of a typical biological or life science-based organization’s and protect critical systems from attacks. Our comparative evaluation using factors such as hybrid threat detection effectiveness, biological context awareness score and threat intelligence correlation accuracy shows that the proposed framework is effective in threat detection and protection.
