Аннотация

The morphological characterization of the vertebral column in offspring born under conditions of experimental diabetes has become a highly relevant topic in modern neuroendocrinology and fetal development research. This study investigated the effects of streptozotocin (STZ)- and alloxan-induced maternal diabetes on the structure of the spinal cord and vertebral column during both fetal and postnatal development. The results demonstrated that offspring of diabetic mothers exhibited a 15–30% reduction in spinal cord volume, a 45–65% decrease in neuronal density, alterations in dendritic spine numbers, increased glial activity, and epigenetic changes, including oxidative stress and dysregulation of gene expression. These findings indicate that maternal diabetes has a significant impact on the neurodevelopment of offspring and may contribute to long-term neurodegenerative alterations in the spinal cord and vertebral structures.
