Аннотация

This paper explores the development of Korean Studies in Central Asia in the transnational era from multiple perspectives. Three interrelated layers shape the field's unique position in global Korean Studies discourse: the historical legacy of the Koryo-saram community formed after the forced deportation of 1937, the rapid institutional expansion following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, and the unprecedented global spread of the Korean Wave (Hallyu) in the twenty-first century. Yet structural limitations remain, including insufficient research infrastructure, the absence of systematic scholar development programs, and a shortage of locally adapted educational materials. Drawing on transnationalism as an analytical framework, the paper critically examines both the achievements and constraints of Korean Studies in Central Asia, and proposes a sustainable academic community model centred on three core strategies: building horizontal collaborative research networks, developing digital knowledge-sharing platforms, and mobilising the cultural heritage of the Koryo-saram community for scholarly purposes.
