The role of AI capability and green supply chain practices in driving innovation: Moderated mediation of knowledge sharing and organizational learning orientation in Chinese enterprises

This research determines direct impacts of artificial intelligence capability (AIC), green supply chain practices (GSCP), and enterprise management support (EMS) on innovation performance (IP). However, examining mediating role of knowledge sharing (KS) and moderated mediating impact of organizational learning orientation (OLO) within Chinese business context. Quantitative research design was employed by using survey data collected from 580 respondents showing diverse range of enterprises across China. Established and validated measurement scales were adopted for operationalizing the constructs of study. Proposed conceptual framework was analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) through Smart PLS. The analysis of study was carried out in two stages: assessment of measurement model for establishing reliability and validity, followed by evaluation of structural model to test direct, indirect and moderated mediation relationships. Outcome of study show that AIC, GSCP, and EMS show significant positive effects on both KS and IP. Additionally, KS serves as significant partial mediator in relationships among these organizational capabilities and innovation outcomes. This indicate that knowledge exchange shows significant mechanism through which enterprises convert strategic resources into enhanced innovation performance. Moreover, additional direct pathways also contribute towards innovation success. The outcomes further indicate that OLO positively influence KS and significantly strengthens indirect effects of AIC, GSCP and EMS on IP through KS. Specifically mediating effects of KS becomes more pronounced in organizations characterized by higher levels of learning orientation, by highlighting crucial role of organizational learning in amplifying innovation benefits derived from technological, managerial and sustainability-oriented capabilities. This research also contributes towards literature by integrating digital capability, sustainable supply chain management, knowledge management, and organizational learning perspectives into comprehensive framework for explaining enterprise innovation. Findings of study offers significant insights for managers and policy makers to underscore the need for investing in artificial intelligence capabilities, environmentally sustainable supply chain practices, supportive management structures, and learning-oriented organizational cultures.
