Abstract Essential oils of Origanum tytthanthum Gontsch. from Uzbekistan, were obtained by steam distillation of the fresh leaves, stems, and flowers. The oils were analyzed by GC and GC/MS and found to contain about 30 compounds, 20 of which have been identified, the major ones being thymol and carvacrol (48-89%). In some of the oils, p-cymene and γ-terpinene contents reached 10-11%. Quantitative differences in the oil components were not found between all samples of oils produced from plants collected in different regions.
