Assessment of the Wear Resistance for Gearwheel Teeth in an Open Toothed Gear under the Conditions of a High Level of Dust

This paper presents a method for assessing wear resistance for open toothed gears that operate under the conditions of a high level of dust. The size of abrasive particles that occur in the air in a freely suspended state and adhere to the surface of toothed gears in the course of circulation has been determined. The wear rate of a gearwheel tooth is assessed taking the dust level and the size of abrasive particles; the geometrical, kinematic, and dynamic parameters that are characteristic of toothed gears; and the mechanical properties of gearwheel materials into account.
