Negative metal ion and cluster source

1992en
ABI

Аннотация

Construction, characterization, and applications of a negative metal ion and cluster, M−n (n=1–3) source are described. The Au−n ions are produced by sputtering of a gold target during Cs+ bombardment. The Au− current was ∼ 10−6 A in the ion energy range of (3–25) keV. The Au− yield was an order of magnitude greater than the Au−2 yield. The value of the yield produced was dependent on an alkaline covering on the gold target. Alkaline coverage was varied by changing the target temperature and the Cs vapor stream. This source gives a possibility to produce both Au− and Au−n(n ≳ 1) ions under the same experimental conditions. The research results and applications of the source are presented.
