UV Ceti stars - Statistical analysis of observational data

1976en

Аннотация

A statistical analysis of 386 flares of eight UV Ceti flare stars indicates (1) no apparent correlation between times of flare occurrence; (2) no apparent correlation between flare energy and the time interval since the preceding flare; (3) flare energies in the B and V filters and C (no filter) are directly proportional to the flare energy in the U-band; concurrent observations in other filters can thus be converted to U, yielding 770 independent observations of flare energy; (4) the quiescent luminosity in the U-band is strongly correlated with the mean flare energy, mean rate of energy loss due to flaring, and spectral index. Cumulative distributions of flare energy with frequency of occurrence are constructed from which the mean rate of energy loss due to flaring is calculated, with the effects of event-detection thresholds being taken into account. Several of the cumulative distributions differ from previous determinations, indicating the possibility of time-dependent distribution parameters.
